Is there a possibility to program a " COUNTER " on a MX-950 under use of variables?
Normaly under use of variables i can "Jump back" to a page i'm started from. That works fine on pages. Now I'm looking for a possibility to
"Jump Back" to a TV-Channel I'm watching before. The TV has no previous-channel function. I thought it will work to " Count " the channel UP/Down commands like this:
press channel+ -> variable_count1=1, press channel+ -> variable_count2=1, variable_count1=0, press channel+ -> variable_count3=1, variable_count2=0 and variable_count1=0
press channel- -> variable_count3=0, variable_count2=1, variable_count1=0 and so on.
But how to combine?
What do you think? Is it realizable, or should i go home.......?

Your gonna have issues if you enter channels directly..........

No way to know the channel your on for sure or if there is a channel that you don't get like 18,19,20, 22,23

then it screws up your idea.......
If you can't be good, be good at it.

There is a way to do it if you enter channels directly, but it would take 66 variables and a lot of programming. My bet is that when it was all said and done there would be some lag in direct channel entry because of all the variable processing that would have to occur.

I did a very similar thing to track button presses for a password page instead of using 4 keypads with jump-to commands. I used one keypad and tracked the digits, then after 3 wrong attempts it locks the remote for a given period of time.

Doesn't the law of dimminishing returns kick in after the 6th variable? Let's think about this for a sec. What is your time worth - about 60 quid/hour right?

Now, what does it cost for a decent tuner solution instead of working it thru a cheezy VCR?
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

My point exactly. It would be a lot of work (many hours), and probably still wouldn't be perfect. Obviously I would never do this for a customer, but if a DIY'er wanted to try I would explain it.

If I were in your situation I would create a page with a set of favorite channels and not try to track all of them. I doubt your to different from the average viewer so I'm betting you have under 10 channels that you watch religiously. Set up a favorites page for those channels with a "Last Favorite" button on it. That way you can use "direct access" or "last favorite viewed" to get around. If you would like specifics on how to set up the variables to do the last channel function email me (email address in profile) and I'll reply with a phone number. Writing it all out would just take to long.

ljckbailey is right on track with the favorite channels list. I took this one step further and created an new device group in my MX950 config with ALL of the channels because I refuse to memorize the channel assignments that Cablevision uses. I have some channels grouped on category pages like sports, kids, news & talk, hbo & tmc, Sho & Max, etc. and have the rest listed alphabetically over multiple pages - all on the LCD soft buttons
