Hey guys,

So here's the deal. Most of the time we watch our tv and listen to the 5.1 audio through the Marantz receiver. However, once mom and kid go to bed, I prefer to listen to just the tv speakers themselves. Sometimes I am not at home at night and Mom wishes to do the same thing. Anyway, I was wondering what options I have in terms of programming a given button that would switch between the audio playback type. For reference, I have access to discretes for the receiver's on and off, but only have a toggle code for the tv speakers on and off.

I'm thinking the only easy way to do this is to have a button either on Main Page 1 that toggles this or have a button that is the same on every device page that does this, so that no one needs to go back to Main every time. Right now, I've hidden the device page on Main Page 2. I have macros on Main Page 1 that just say things like "Watch DVD", "Watch HDTV", etc...

Thanks,
Jeff

I had a customer that had a standalone TiVo unit that controlled his cable box. He wanted to be able to record something to the TiVo, but still be able to watch TV. So I hooked up a basic cable feed to the TV tuner and made a macro that turned off the receiver so you didn't get audio from the TiVo, and then switched to the Antenna input of the TV.

All audio (dvd, cable, vcr, etc.) was ran through the receiver, so the TV speakers were left set to 'on'. When you switch to the Antenna input, you get audio from the TV speakers. You could run a coax out of your cable box/sat box into the Antenna input of the TV and make a macro that would do just that.

Only downside is that it only works for cable/sat. Actually if you have a dvd/vcr combo, you could use the coax out of that as well to get dvd and vcr for some late night movie watching. You could make macros that say 'Night TV' and 'Night DVD' etc. If your TV has two antenna inputs, you could hook up the cable/sat to Ant A and a DVD/VCR combo to Ant B.

8ate8,

Thanks for the idea. So basically you added two more settings to the Main Page 1 that said "Night TV" and "Night DVD". That's pretty much what I was thinking I'd have to do... i.e. make the user go back to Main Page 1 to switch overall system functionality. I'll try to ingrain the old "If in doubt... goto Page 1" rule into my family. :)

Thanks,
Jeff

I ran into the same problem. My solution was to add a "tv mute step" to the startup macro. When muting the tv sound, the word "mute" appears on the screen but disappears from the tv after a second or 2. So, I have picture but no sound (obviously) from the TV. All sound is now controlled from the AV receiver.

The good thing is that when I turn off the TV (in the shutdown macro), the muted tv setting is reset. So, when I turn on "night tv" the sound is there and at the last level.

This worked with my tv so you will have to experiment with your tv. If you have any questions or this isnt clear enough, let me know and I will try to restate myself.

Good luck.

The easiest thing to do (assuming you have an audio out to the TV from the reciever or cable) would be to add Vol + and Vol- to the bottom row of the LCD screen in each source for the TV speakers. Simply mute the Surround Sound and crank up the TV speakers. When you turn on the SS next remember to turn the TV down. I have other examples of more complex stuff too if you need other ideas.

Here is the opposite of what you want to do but should give you an idea.
