I have a MX 700. The cable I use with it has a serial connection. I just got a new computer and need to use a USB connection for the MX 700. Is a USB cable available for this remote or am I just out of luck? Thanks. Stan

You either need a computer with a serial port or a usb to serial converter or a pcmcia card. Some have had success with IOGear and some with Keyspan. Scroll down in this forum there is a post about this as well as other places in this forum. My opinion is evident in this post:

First of all i don't agree 100% with this. My
experience is that the IOGear GUC232A is more
reliable and that's based on 6 installers plus
a few reps during training. If you spend some
time searching on this board you will also find
some people who bought the keyspan with poor results,
while some have had success. I'm sure alot has
to do with user error in the setup but that's
a variable i can't predict.

But why don't you just do it right and get a serial
pcmcia card for your laptop if you have the slot
available. Here is the Quatech one I have from
Sewell direct...works like a champ and then if
you want to get into programming for systems like
amx or crestron you are good to go as you will
probably find that the usb adaptor will not work
for them.

Thanks. I should have searched before I posted. I put Serial to USB cable in a search engine and found many (and ordered one). (I was setting up my new computer and when I got to downloading the MX-700 software and then uploading my current configuration I realized that my new computer didn't have a serial port so I panicked).

I ran into the same problem about 3 years ago when I did my first 700 on a job. Didn't even pay attention until on-site with my trusty Toshiba Sat10. Looked like a real winner (or wiener) to the homeowner though. Fortunately the was a compusa around the corner and I picked up a Keyspan port replicator.. Never a problem since...with the replicator anyway..My "trusty" laptop died...=]
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

I've used the i Concepts from Compusa with 3 different laptops with no problems.

We are switching over to the MX900 from the MX850 because of upload and
download speeds though .

It's sad because I really like the MX850, but the load times .......
