First, I know that even remotes that use RF cannot learn in the RF commands of other remotes. Any way, what I am looking for, is an RF wall switch for Cieling fans, that also has an IR receiver on it, that will convert an incoming IR signal to RF.

My chances of finding this are slim to none right?

Might as well ask though. Would be nice if someone made one. It would solve a lot of issues for all of us with RF controlled fans.

Have you contacted Lutron or any other lighting companies about this? May even try some of the fan companies themselves.

Is your request for fans to be purchased or existing fans. If it is for future purchases, X10 relays and dimmers can be driven by IR. For example, look at smarthome.com. They have theirs own and other lines of x10 dimmers that can be used to provide varaible speed control for celing fans. Their shopping assistant at

specifically mentions this capability. Once installed an X10 device numbered IR543 can be used to convert IR signals to X10 signals.

I have two fans that are controlled using this method and they work well.

It is existing ones, and they were never hard wired into a wall switch, or I would just have used a Lutron switch. The fans I have are also brand freaking new, and are really crazy. they have a 26* blade pitch and were a special order item, so changing it out to something else is not going to happen.

I'll contact my Lutron rep and see if it is something they are interested in.

If the Lutron route does not work out, there are X10 dimmers/relays that can be installed in the fan mounting box. You can then put a controller only next to an existing switch. Send me an email if you eventually want to pursue.
