I currently use the Sony AV 3000, but have been salivating over the Universal Remote Control MX 3000 for a LONG time. My hangup is the MSRP pricing or even the pricing on EBAY and other online discount houses.

Does anyone know of a lower priced remote control that's similar to the MX 3000? The main complaint I have with the Sony AV 3000 is that the touchscreen buttons cannot be labeled what you want them to be....you have 4 preset choices of touchscreen labels on the Sony AV 3000.

Everything I've seen about the MX 3000 looks great, but I don't want to afford hundreds of dollars for a remote control for my home theater.

Any suggestions or ideas????

The only remote between the MX-3000 and your Sony is the Philips Pronto TSU-3000 or new 3500. The 3000 is a better deal at this time since the 3500 came out. You're not going to get a color touchscreen unless you step in price though.

Sony has the RM-NX7000 remote that is color and learns IR, has the touch engine thats pretty cool, can edit buttons

I have seen them on ebay for a decent price. Most people with the MX3000 arent ready to sell them just yet

The Prontos are decent too, and can be found from several retailers,

Talk to Mike at http://www.surfremotecontrol.com/ see post above as well

Thanks for your response, guys. With the remotes you've both mentioned, aren't we getting up in pricing that's close to the MX 3000??

How much do you want to spend??

Color remotes arent cheap, touchscreens arent cheap

I have a almost new RM-NX7000 that was programmed up but never used...we had more use on it programming it...homeowner hated touchscreens and had us install RTI T1's, it has evething except box

Im sure you could find a used remote from dealers or online sales, usually dont have any warranty on used equipment

The Pronto 3000 is a nice remote(greyscale) and from Mike at surf remote its at a nice price at around 250.00, the MX3000, Pronto 7500 and others are upwards of 899-999+, but are color

I have seen used remotes in the 300+ range for color

I know that TSU7000s from Pronto are going for ~$400 from dealers who have some lying around.

I've seen some refurb TSU7000s for around $400, but not new ones. You can get a TSU3000 with DS3000 docking station for less than $250.

The Sony RM-NX7000 has not been particularly well received and doesn't have the huge end user support of the Pronto or URC lines.

If you want to keep it lower then $250 then the best option may be a Harmony remote. The don't have touchscreens and at that price they won't be color (unless you find a great sale on the 880 like the one Dell had last week for $60 after rebate) but they have some "soft" buttons by the top LCD screens that can be labeled however you want and their much easier then the Pronto to set up.
