I have had my Mx-3000 for a year and no problems till now...I have the DMX-3000 software along with the new upscalable 400 disk mega changer from Sony. Well. anyways, today I added a few more dvd's and when I went to download them it keeps saying, "Check Connection"...but the connection seems fine...I have tried everything...How do I check to see if it's the cable or something else?...Thanks...Chuck.

Chuck,

Hold onto the 3000 it is a great remote, I'm sorry I can't be of much help on this one, but since we started selling them I haven't had a problem with connecting them.

Answer this please: When you connect the cable, do you get the green swirling icon in the system tray? Does the remote make the connection sound? or does the icon sit in the system tray as a round, grey icon? If you want to try another cable, any standard mini usb cable will work if you have one from a camera or something try it. I've used my cable from my Sony camera. Or do you have the older square black jack from the pre-mini usb days? In this case you would need to get another from URC.

I'd hate to see you give up on such a great remote.

The remote works fine, but I can't download any new dvd's or make any changes on my keeper file cause it does not recognize when I plug in the cable...It doesn't do anything...when I hit download it just keeps telling me to "Check Connections!"...It was working fine earlier this evening...then my daughter gave me 3 new movies to add to my collection and when I went to download, all of a sudden nothing...I have plugged it in a hundred times and tried every usb port on my laptop...I am frustrated cause I don't want to buy a new cable and find out it does the same thing...There must be some way to test the remote without buying a cable?...I dunno.............:0(

BTW, I have the old style cable with the black plastic on top of the plug...

try uninstalling the editing software and uninstaling the microsoft active sync software, then reinstall it if the active sync software is corrupted then it will cause communication errors which will disrupt connection establishment.

Thanks for the input, but I have the MX-3000 editor and active sync installed on my wifes laptop also and it does the same thing on hers....so it's down to either the cable, or the jack on the back of my remote control...:0(

call URC and ask about a new cable, the investment in a cable is going to be very small to test your $1000 remote. Heck, they may not even charge you if they too suspect it is a bad cable.

Did you buy it from an authorized dealer? Call them and see if they can plug in a different cable and make it work?

Call URC tech support they can take it in for service and make sure it comes back working even if it is a bad cable.

It seems you have quite an investment and a great remote there between the remote itself and the DMX software, I don't understand why you'd give up on it so easily.

Yeah, I know...your right, I'm just frustrated right now...I am going to call them and have them send me a new cable...Hopefully this is all it is...I apologize for my earlier sarcastic outburst...The remote has performed flawlessly up until now so I guess I really should be counting my blessings...thanx.

Just wanted to get back to you guys and let everyone know that it "was" the cable after all...I ordered a new one from Universal Remote Control Inc for $15.00 and now it works perfectly again...The cable "appeared" to be fine, but after discovering the new cable worked, I cut open the old one with a razor blade and discovered the outer wire (ground?) broken loose. Thanks for the few replys...Chuck.

I Have had that problem when I went out to reprogram because I was on the web at the same time using a wireless card to get files.

Byron...Interesting that you would say that cause I had just purchased a Verizon air card for the same laptop and it was the first time that I tried to download some new dvd's after buying the aircard...(interesting). I will make sure that I unplug the air card before I attempt to connect my MX-3000 to my PC...Thanx
