I have old equipment ( hell, I am old) and wondering if anyone knows if a $6.99 urc-6011 would be useful as a "learning" remote or is it just a
waste of time?

As a learning remote, no not really. Since it can only learn about 25 or so commands for the whole remote. This is the wrong forum, urc-6011 is UEI remote, you want the OFA & RS forum.

What do you mean by a learning remote?

The urc-6011 doesn't do learning.

So if you meant what you seem to mean, the answer is no.

But many people who have a learning remote use an inexpensive OFA remote, such as the urc-6011, to generate signals for the other remote to learn. If that's what you meant, it MIGHT be very useful for that purpose depending on details of what you want to do.

It can generate signals of original remotes you may have lost. In many cases it can generate useful commands that weren't present in the original remote.
