My Dishnetwork 811 remote has a "FORMAT" button that changes the aspect ratio of my TV. I want to program this button to my SL-9000. FAILS every time I try to program to the 9000. I would like to use the T/V button (next to the mute button) to learn this function.
Any advice or help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance

Maybe the memory is full for learning. If that's the case you'll need to delete another learned command.
If it isn't memory full, try changing batteries on the 811 and SL-9000. And try varying the distance between the remotes when learning. Also try varying the amount of time you hold down the button on the 811 remote from just a tap to long hold and in between.

Thanks Hiker, but the batteries are new in both units. The memory couldn't possibly be full, I can program additional buttons if I wanted to. It just won't program the format button. The other thing I can't do is use the "POWER" button as a memory button, i.e. M1-M4??????? My opening macro, to turn on the SAT then turn on the TV, I have to use M1 or M2 M3 or M4 ????? I'd rather use the POWER button to start.

If you are still having a problem learning the 811 format command, try changing the IR command set for the 811. See the 811 manual for how to do this. You'll need to re-learn all the commands.
You should be able put up to 15 command on the power button. See the SL-9000 manual for procedure and restrictions.

The 811's remote is RF only, you can't learn directly from it, there is a way to blink back the commands from the dish receiver itself, see your manual.

not true, edmund. I've successfully programed everything else via the 811 remote. For example, volume, numbers, info, guide, recall etc. I only two things I can't program, is the format button on the 811 and the POWER button to be used for a memory button.
