Hi, I have downloaded Logo Tools from GuIFX, created a new folder called UPC (my cable TV provider) and saved channels logos in that folder. When I run Logo Tools I have the option of selecting UPC as a source folder, but then pressing Gloss Black or Gloss White results in nothing. Is there something I am missing?

You need to create Gloss Black and Gloss White subfolders in your UPC folder. BTW, there are also network BMPs available in the root DirecTv and XM folders as well.

Mike, they seem to be created automatically, but there in nothing in them. Then I placed the original logos there, but still nothing happens! I though the point of the program was to take those logos and make them into standardarised gloss logos? I have both jpegs and gifs there.....

The already provided logos unfortunately don't help me.

Can no one tell me if I am doing something wrong, or if I have misunderstood the purpose of Logo Tools?

What I dont get is that GUIFX has given us the software at all? They are basically in the same business as a lot of us who create our own graphics and programming rather than farm it out to a company like them.

If they make it just that much easier for us to create our own graphics, how are they to make money off of us? I'm not complaining, as they do offer a valuable service to smaller companies who don't employ full time graphic artists as programmers...i'm just making note of it.

cgroth,

The logos must be in bmp format and should ideally be 62 pixels wide by 46 pixels high to get the correct gloss black or gloss white treatment. I've been using the software for a few days now and it will create two folders (one for each type) filled with customized versions of your logos.

I love Logo Tools becuase it allows me to not only have logos for all the national satellite channels but also for all of my local/regional channels. One minor annoyance with the current beta version, which I'm told will be addressed in the final version, is that it only produces bmp files which don't include alpha transparency. The final version is supposed to add png file support as well as other styles besides gloss black and gloss white. Currently I'm converting the customized logos to png format using Fireworks.

Bobli, just so I understand, I place bmps 62x46 in the folder, then press the button, and it will make glossy versions? (I am on a different PC now, so I can't try from here)
