I have a new MX-700 and during the lengthy programming process it will ocassionally lose communication with the PC. It happened about 5 or 6 times over the course of about 3 hours. Each time when the communication error would come up I would hit the "Retry" button several times and it would eventually regain communication.

Other then checking my Com Port settings what else could cause it to lose communication? The cable is brand new and securely attached to the Com port and the remote.

I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, if you're not using it for learning, there's no reason to connect the MX-700 to the PC until you're ready to download to it.

Thanks Mike. But I was using it connected to my PC for learning. I was using the "Continue to next button" option in the editor software for learning from my other remote. I found it was much quicker then doing each button individually and then having to save before moving on to the next button.

Was there a period of time that the remote was inactive? I've noticed that sometimes, (not often) after long periods of time when the remote is not learning or communiticating with the PC, that happens. I usualy save my program, close the Editor and reopen the Editor. That does the trick for me.

Thank you,
Damon DG

Yes, there was some inactivity. I just kept hitting "Retry" and after about 3 or 4 times it would reconnect. Yesterday I did a bunch more programing/learning and it didn't lose communication once.

One other question... When the MX700 is connected to the PC and I am using the MX Editor software and the remote to learn from another remote I am assuming that once I have learned a command that command is saved in both the remote and the Editor software. Am I assuming correctly? Or do I need to perform an upload from the remote to the software after I am finished learning?

The learned command is only saved on your PC. The MX-700 is only acting as a conduit for this. You must then download it to the remote. You can also do standalone learning on the MX-700 as you would with an MX-500. Push and hold MAIN and ENT for about 13 seconds to enter the learning mode.

Thanks Mike. You always have all the answers.

Isn't it ture that on a previous version of the MX700 that you couldn't learn directly to the remote but had to use the software to get any commands to the remote?

Yes, but that was addressed in a firmware upgrade two years ago.
