What's the best way to clean the surface of an MX-700? Because of it's light color it picks up skin oils and other dirt fairly easily. Is there some product you can use to gently clean the surface without damaging the surface/buttons?

I found the best way to clean the MX700 was to replace it with an MX850. Not only does the black color look much nicer, but the separate select button in the center of the navigational arrows make the change worth the cost.

I was able to find a good price on MX850s in ebay and the seller gave me a great deal for trading in my old MX700.

I looked at the MX850 and while I like the center select button I really dislike the rest of the buttons and the general construction of the remote. I think the construction quality went way down hill. They did away with the high class/high quality gem stone buttons and replaced them with what I consider inferrior and cheap buttons.

I'm used to the center select button now and feel no urge to upgrade to the MX850. The look and feel of the MX850 is a downgrade from the MX700/800 in my opinion. Plus I don't need the RF so I see no real advantage to the MX850 over the MX700.

Mitch,

If it's not broken...don't fix it, right? :) Nothing wrong with it if it's meeting your needs.

I must admit, I am glad they replaced the 5 way directional thumb pad and separated the select button.

Thank you,
Damon DG

Gentle cycle in the washing machine, and don't forget to add woolite.

I will second that on the seperate select button. I just wish they would have kept those wonderful Gem Stone buttons.

I prefer the new buttons, I love the feel of them, plus when eating my popcorn and sloppy joes the buttons dont get as greasy!

kidding.

I dont eat popcorn and handle my remote.

I love the new backlight, the buttons, and the new select button, but I always used the ENT button for my slect button.

Disassemble, wash the plastic parts, dry, reassemble. I just used this "twist" technique to open my MX-850 for practice. I know I'll eventually spill something sticky on it and have to clean it out.
