I don't use the Editor very often and only when I make changes to my TV setups. I recently got an HDTivo for my bedroom so I needed to update the bedroom remote. I had problems with exporting the HDTivo setup from my Family Room remote as documented in my thread on Exporting. The problem was mostly me and I don't blame the editor for that.

However, I also wanted to change the TV on the bedroom remote to add the temporary TV I have there until I get the LG30FS1D. I got the TV IR codes from the IR database and as usual I punched through the TV volume and Mute from the TV when I watch the HDTivo.

I could not make the volume up/down to work, although the Mute worked. I finally just decided to bypass the punch through and just do shortcuts to the TV Volume up and down buttons.

This bedroom remote file has gone through many changes since I tried many different TVs (the Sony 26HS420, then the Samsung TX-R3079WH and now a temporary Panasonic CT-20G5B until I get the LG 30FS1D).

I can bet that the Editor is not very clean about keeping the remote IR data correct. There is no good reason that the punch through should not have worked. It is just plain sloppy programming on the part of the Editor writers. The removal and adding of new devices should have built-in protections against file fragmentation that can result in removed device data to stay around and prevent proper operation.

I am speaking as a 36 year career software and system engineer. I have wasted many hours on this and it is a shame because when the MX-800 is loaded with data properly, it works like a charm.
