Can the programming I perfected for an MX700 remote be used to successfully program an MX850 unit? I am thinking of upgrading to the 850 because I prefer the black color and the separate select button. I find it too finicky to press select on the 700 without also inadvertently pressing a directional arrow. Also, is the display on both units identical in legibility?

Yes, you can use your MX-700 file with the 850. Also, while the displays of the two remotes are the same, the 850 has better backlighting since it light the bacground, not the text.

Yes, you can use your MX-700 file and download it to the MX-850, using the MX-850 Editor.

The MX-850 is the best incarnation of the MX-700/800. Just the separated select button alone is worth the upgrade, in my opinion.

Thank you,

Thank you for this thread. I too find the select button on my MX700 a bit hard to press and have made the info button above it the select button. Has worked well for 10 years and now the lines on the screen are fading fast so it is time to replace my dear MX700. Amazon has the MX850 at a reasonable price but doesn't mention the software.

Question: My MX-editor (for the 700) no longer updates. Where do I get the MX-850 editor?

Thanks again
David

Ok. I googled it. There appears to be a free version. Can I make the assumption that there is only a free version? Will I run into issues with entering serial numbers or installer license requirements if I purchase the MX850 from Amazon?

Thanks
David

They use the same software, so you can use the version you have, try the nxg nx-820 software from this site, whichever you use they won't allow for updates. The only way to get updateable mx editor is from URC Control Room, which is only for dealers. The urc library is nothing special, I would teach each command anyways, what isn't available, found the pronto hex and import it via the universal browser in the mx-editor.

The editor software will live update if you right click to open onstead of left click,
Then select "run as administrator".....
