MX-500 accepts P-PRO code, buttons don't work

I just got a 2nd MX-500 and cloned my old one to the new. On the CD device set the old one had P-PRO code set to 183 (X10). The old one has this code working fine, but the new one accepts the 183 code but the buttons do not transmit any IR. I've tried reentering the 183 manually thru setup and still the same problem. Other P-PRO codes seem to work. Most of the buttons on all devices are learned codes and that works ok.

Is this maybe a defective MX-500 or does it have an empty P-PRO code set for 183? Did they inadvertently leave out 183 at the factory? I guess I can do learn for the X10 buttons but I could have a defective MX-500 and might want to return.

Why it didn't work right after cloning I don't, but when you entered code 183 manually, if you didn't get the code from the AUX code table it isn't going to work your X10. try this:

1. main and ent
2. P-PRO
3. CD device key
4. AUX, the bottom left device key
5. enter 183
6. save
7. main
8. main

If you attempted to learn any commands to that device, changing the proprogrammed code will not work. You need to delete learned commands, as they will override any preprogrammed functions for that device. Let me know if that helps.

Thanks for the replies...
I followed the procedure that edmund outlined and still no go. I used the IRCLONE-MX and looked using 500e at the device and no learned codes. It's seems like the revision of the MX-500 doesn't contain the IR code for device 183 or I have a defective unit.

That's very strange. Codes aren't just left out like that. The database is only added to usually. Try giving Universal Remote Control a call and see if they have any other ideas for you. You can reach them at: (914) 835-4484.

In the mx-600, code 183 is worthless, so maybe the more recent mx-500's it is as well. Hiker, does your mx-500 have VCR2 or is it called DVR?

I don't remember what the original device names were, but I looked at the picture on the front of the manual and sure enough device 3 is named DVR. The old manual device 3 is VCR2. I can do a learn for the keys, it's no big deal. It's strange that is accepts code 183 and verifies transmit of the power function when 183 is entered during setup. Does it do the same for the MX-600?

Yes, it accepts code 183, but it doesn't work for the IR543. where older mx-500's do.

OK, thanks. I'll contact URC Inc and see what's up.

Do you know if there is a way to indetify which revision or software version for MX-500?

Check your punch-throughs.

Punch-throughs do not effect the 10-key pad, so it isn't a punch-through problem.

I own a newer MX500 and have a similar tale as Hiker's. The newer MX500s have a DVR key setup rather than VCR2.

I can set AUX for device 183 and the Power button works as an all device on button for X10 devices while the System Off button works as an all device off button for the X10 stuff.

But I had to use the learn feature on the MX500 to get the Channel Up and Down keys and the 1,2,3,4 etc. keys to work.

When I attempted to teach the Volume up key and Volume down key to Dim and Brighten, that did not work initially. After repeated attempts the MX 500 did finally learn to Dim and Brighten.

As to this statement, my MX500 is also missing the device codes for my Pioneer DVD Recorder that others say was on previous versions of the MX500. So it appears that they are deleting some of the previously available codes.

Is there a way to read out the firmware version of MX500 that we own?

Check under the batteries.

It seems to say "Version 3.06.004". (With magnification.)

I have had the exact problem with Ir-Clone. It will corrupt the data (with no indication, all screens say the transfer was OK) and leave keys that cannot be erased or relearned. The remote will say that it has learned a new command but the key will not work.
