LOL! Yeah, I'm happy with my MX-700 which offers PC programming, but I'm jealous of a few features your proposed software will do that mine doesn't: - Copy a IR code from one button to another - Copy to/from Pronto files I'd love to do those on my MX-700 - is there any way?

Mike,
Great progress! It's excellent to hear you have a working prototype now!
It looks like you're going to have a huge backlog of orders on your hands as soon as you're ready to let this thing out. I was going to ask if you were prepared to let the plans out so some of us could build our own (I'd even donate $$$ to the cause to get a copy), but with a microcontroller on board, I guess I'll have to settle for buying one, or at least a preprogrammed controller. Either way, I hope you're prepared for at least those of us who read this daily.
I want one now :-}
Keep up the great work. - todd

WOW....simply, wow....I have lurked through these forums for about a year and this thread finally made me want to post...a fellow poster over at tivocommunity.com lead me to this thread...
First, Mike, AMAZING! I don't think you realize how much your work is apreciated or how many people are viewing this thread and just not posting...
Do you have a cost figure yet for how much these units will cost? (sorry if already answered, I skimmed.)
I have to admit, when I first started reading this thread I was thinking "I don't need a device like that." But after reading all the tweaks the software can do I'm hooked!
GregoriusM: You keep mentioning that the maker of the MX-500 is watching this thread...how do you know? Have they said anything? Do you work for them? I don't mean that to sound like an interogation, I'm just curious.

Kudos Mike. Another buyer here! In this day and age where everything is considered throw-away or orphaned, it's gratifying to see an idea *and* follow up which gives improved and extended life to a piece of gear. For me the MX-500 is a comfortable old shoe.

While I use an MX-700 in my main system, I still have the trusty MX-500 with the smaller setup. Count me in on wanting one too!
edrock200: Greg is a beta tester for HTM. And a GREAT resource for HTM questions and info...

Mike,
Add another one to your growing list of customers. I initially wanted only a way to back up my MX-500, but this will do so much more.

Jeez, I wait for the MX-700, get one, and then you guys to this. Thanks a lot! ;) My feelings exactly, Phil. Oh, well-- at least we had fun setting them up, didn't we?

Now it's my turn to say WOW. What an incredible and gratifying response. Thank you. I shipped out my beta versions today so the recipients should get them next week. As you know I'm taking a vacation during that time so that'll give some time for delivery and early testing. I only planned a few beta versions and they are all spoken for but thanks for the offers to test.
I spoke with the production guy today and he sees no major problems. One minor problem requires me to put a different part on order which will be delivered by the time I return. So an initial production run is loosely scheduled to begin around the 25th of this month. Two to three weeks later I will have a batch to ship. Life is never quite that smooth so I expect a few bumps. That will give me some time to organize the business side of things, including price, and remodel the web site, which I have neglected during prototype testing.
I suppose I could sell a kit of parts but most of them are surface mount and are extremely difficult to solder by hand. Check out the size of a 0402 component for example and let me know if you want to try. It really is just an exercise in soldering.
