Ok I've been putting off MX-700 for a while because apparently it doesn't have a very good select button in the cluster of four navigation buttons, which is essential for DVD menu's, HDTV guide menu's, etc.

Now I've decided on the new Orion remote, anyone know when the new series of remotes is due out? Is anyone else waiting like me?

All the new remotes (350 Osiris, 650 Omega and 850 Orion) are all available for sale. The 950 will be 2nd quarter 2005. There are a number of threads on the 850 here.

Also, the select button on the older HTM remotes isn't that bad. You get used to it pretty quickly.

I was unaware that the 700 HAD a problem with the joystick until I read the posts pertaining to the fact! And I own three of them!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

You probably never owned one of the orignal Mx 500's as some of us have. These joysticks spoiled you from all that followed. I think the new ones now have a separate button in the center which is divorced from the rest of the joystick. This should even be better or at least as good as the originals. I have seen some of the new ones at Goodguys here in Calif and they feel really good. Have not yet seen the 650 which is the one I am interested in, except for the price. Still love the 500's.

The separated select button design is much better than the MX-5/6/7/8XX. The rubber keypad can't wear the same way and cause "slippage" the way that was possible on the previous models. Plus, since these remotes are designed based on tactile feel, this change improves upon it and follows that concept quite nicely.

Thank you,
