I think I am out of luck here. But I thought I would ask anyway. I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 receiver and a Denon DVD-1600. I have programmed a macro to turn everything on and open the DVD tray. The problem is the input (ie, DTS, DD, PCM, etc.) could be wrong depending on the DVD I put in. The receiver remembers the last setting I used. Most of the DVD's I watch are either DD or DTS. Now it's fairly easy to hit an input button to get the correct source. But I'm trying to make it easy for my wife to watch a DVD. This may be a receiver issue, not an MX-500 issue. BTW, I purchased the MX-500 several days ago and absolutely love it. I read about 80 posts in this forum to figure (most) things out. What a fabulous resource of information.

Does your DSP-A1 have an autodetect setting? Most of the current preamps and receivers will automatically detect the audio signal and adjust accordingly. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

If I leave the receiver on and switch thru several DVD's it does recognize the signal. PCM for an old B&W movie. With Bourne Supremacy it will switch to DD. With American Beauty it has DTS and DD. So I choose one and it will switch. And If I turn the receiver off and turn it on again it will recognize what I put in. The problem seems to be in the analog input. I set up the MX-500 to turn everything on. So my macro goes: Receiver- On input DVD TV On Input DVD DVD on DVD Open Tray I then hit play after inserting a disc. It always stays on Pro Logic- Normal. That is the default setting on the DSP-A1. I have tried a macro where the receiver stays on, switches to the DVD input, the TV stays on (switching from cable) and switches to the DVD input with the same results. So the answer to your question is yes, it does autodetect. But only diong everything manually. Thru the macro it does not. So I'm guessing the problem is with the programmer.

You might try switching to the DVD input on the receiver after turning the DVD player on first in your macro.

There are also Yamaha extended codes that I think will work on the DSP-A1. The codes are a memory and memory recall. You use the memory to memorize every setting that the receiver is in at that time, so when you push memory recall 1 the receiver sets itself at the same volume, input, surround mode, etc. I think there are 5 memories and 5 recalls. If you search through the .ccf files, I know they're there someplace.
Matt.
