Just got a Samsing 50" dlp (model type 5065W1/Xaa). Was trying to set up the MX700 to run it, found it listed in the HTM database (they actually show two device files...one for a 5065 and another for a 5065W). Both come up showing buttons for selecting S-video inputs 1, 2 and 3, as well as the standard video and component inputs but almost none of these work.

I tried both device files (5065 and the 5065W). Whats weird here is that if I press the s-video 1 button, it will select the s-video 1 input. The s-video 2 button actually selects s-video input 3 and the s-video 3button does nothing.

The standard video and component video buttons also do nothing. Tried several other device files but no luck. The Samsung web site says that this TV does not have discreet codes (just did a search of the web site, did not talk to live person yet).

Something seems funny here since I can, in fact, select s-video input's 1 and 3 directly (implies that there are discreets for video inputs).

Anyone know anything about this? Has anyone had success in getting the MX700 to directly select specific video inputs?

Thanks in advance!

Karl

Take a look at the 5063 file in the MX-700 files section of this site. Also, take a look at this thread in the Discrete Hunter forum.

Mike,

Thanks for those links. I had seen the thread in discreet hunter forum. Looked real interesting but I have no idea what to do with the info. It looks like this thread shows hex data strings to execute commands on a device. Would there data strings be pulled into something like pronto edit then exported as a ccf file to ultimately pull into the mx700?

I'd love to try some of these listings but am a newcomer to this. Can anyone clarify this?

Yes. Instructions for creating a CCF from the hex code are listed on my FAQ page here.

Mike,

Fantastic! You've been a great help! I'll give that run.

For what it's worth, I did sort out a workaround...

Since the Home Theater Master database MXD file for the TV has an "S-Video 1" discreet code that does work, I can use that to set the input to a known point, then use the "TV/Video" key to cycle to the next live input (in my case this is the Component 1 input). While not a perfect solution, it works reliably and it's fast.

By the way...there is a post in here somewhere that talks about not being able to select an "un-connected" input on the Samsung HLM5065. I can confirm this. If I cycle through the "live" input sources using the "TV/Video" button, or even go to the input listing via the main menu, it will only allow you to select an input that's hooked up.

The only apparent exception to this is the regular "RF/Antenna" input which always appears to be selectable.

May thanks again for your help. This is a great forum!

Karl
