What is the strange bumpout on the bottom of the MX-500? The photos in the review here don't show it, but the units that are shipping (like the one I got) have it. Here's a pic:

If you are referring to the round "BUMP" that is roughly an inch up from the bottom on the left side of the remote, then it is the PC programing port. I assume this is only on the MX-500 because HTM uses the same mold for the MX-500 as they do for the programmable remotes like the MX-700.

I believe the second run of moulds (molds?) that the '500's case came from was shared with the MX-700. On the '700, that is where the interface goes - but was left blank for the 500.
My old ver.1 '500 doesn't have the bump, but the second one I bought has it.

He isn't talking about PC programming port, because he says the bump he's talking about isn't there in the photo, which the port is.

Actually I think he is talking about the port. He says the photos in the review here don't show it, but the pic he linked to does. He needs to look at page 13 of the review. :-)

Alright, I thought it was strange him showing a picture of something that isn't there.:)

In order to streamline their costs, they are using the exact same bottom cover for the MX-500 and MX-700. Actually, the MX-6xx and MX-8xx use the same top and bottom molds as the MX-500 & MX-700, except in different colors. They are very good at minimizing the total number of unique parts used.
