I think I know the answer to the question...will the MX-500 run a Pioneer DVR220 or similar Pioneer without learning?

Thanks.

Marty,

Hello! If you have code DVD 172 in your MX-500, it should work for you. Otherwise, you will have to learn it. Let me know if that works.

My mx-500 took the code. If you have moved the DVD device from the upper left device key, you still need to get the code from that key's device code table.

My DVD wasn't in the upper right. I may have a different version.

I tried both the DVD and the digital recorder table with no luck. I guess I should look in all the tables to be sure that it isn't hidden somewhere. I quickly scanned the manual and couldn't find a 172 code for any Pioneer device.

So being new to this, I have to ask two questions.

If you move it, then when you want to find the DVD table do you have to remember where is was originally located?

Can't this be a major area of confusion if there are several 172 codes on different tables (especially since my MX-500 doesn't match the manual or the online manual - i.e. I have no VCR2 but have DVR instead in that position)?

Yes, or can just look in the manual, it has the original lineup'

There are no codes in VCR2 device table, in the manual they tell you to use VCR1 code table anyways.

Yes, but as I said, my manual shows the VCR2 but the remote has the newer DVR key there and a table for the DVR codes (and no mention of DVR in the manual code section or online manual code section.)

So my point is that if I forgot this difference I would also have a hard time finding the DVR table if I ever have need for it.

I have 2 mx-500's and 2 mx-600's and none them came with a DVR device key. If your's had one out of the box, it might have been a return. HTM might have changed the mx-500 once again, check the mx-500 review for other changes made over its history.

There were very few device codes under the DVR key. Due to the way the manual is written I thought that there were no device codes below the VCR2 key. Is that correct?

The codes on my device below the DVR/VCR2 position are as follows:

001
075
090
104
105
109
117

Then the list cycles through to 001 again.

Yes, on pervious mx-500's the VCR2 was empty of codes. I recognize two of those codes, 090 & 117 are for tivos. I guess this change is proof that HTM won't be dropping the mx-500 anytime soon.

Teaching is the preferred method of programming the mx-500 anyway. See the preset tivo codes are for address "0", meaning it will control all non-sony tivos no matter what address they're set to. Having 5 Dtivos, that's not good so I had teach. So teach the pioneer commands, you'll be done in time.

Yes, the DVR page 1 and page 2 buttons look like TIVO functions. But of course since the alpha tags could have been altered by a previous owner I couldn't be sure.

Thanks for all of your help. Once I have this programmed it will work well for me.

If you'd like, call HTM and see if they have the code available. You can send it to them and they'll upgrade your codes for free. At least you'll have the latest and greatest.

NOTE: If you already customized your remote or learned anything to it, just make it clear that you want them to clone it and save your programming before they upgrade it.
