Hi guys,

I'm new to posting on here but have been an avid reader of this forum for some time. My question is: I have an MX-500 and have successfully added about 6 remotes to it. However, my Dish 508 receiver and remote doesn't want to play ball too great. I have found a pre-programmed code that will at least operate the info, guide and channel buttons for this receiver, but cannot get other great functions like PVR e.t.c on to the MX-500. Basically, what is happening is i tried getting the mx-500 to 'learn' the additional functionality of the dish remote but it fails. I think it's because the dish remote sends UHF / IR codes and maybe the mx-500 can't 'grab' or 'see' the signal being sent. Is there a pre-programmed code that others are using that captures most of the other dish remotes normal functions (like PVR e.t.c.)? If there is another way to learn the rest of the commands properly that would be great as well. Let me know asap as possible. Thanks

Bump,

Would anyone have written a M5 file for this? It's a JVC made, DP 508 receiver by the way. Any help really appreciated

I have had to learn from the receiver itself on a few dish network boxes. see how many ir windows it has, and read the dish book to see about it. it usually shoots the commands RF to the box, and it will shoot them back out of the box in IR format to teach your remote.

I have learned all the buttons of a dish 501 & 508 with no problems, try new batterys in the dish remote and see if that helps. If not search this forum for other learning tricks, you should not have problems with this model.

I cannot learn from my dish 508 remote at all. This is the grey remote (platinum plus?) that has 'UHF' stamped on it below the keys. I've read on this board where you could choose the 'diagnostics' menu and then choose 'teach remote' to let the receiver fire IR commands to the remote you are trying to use. However, i cannot find this option at all on the 508. I'll try some fresh batteries again, but it may be that the mx-500 cannot see the UHf /IR signals of the dish remote. Any other ideas or help welcomed. Thanks for the help so far.

Both my remote's look like this [Link: radioshack.com]

They are uhf remotes but also send ir, if you have the newer uhf+ [Link: dishnetwork.com]

then they only send uhf and will not work

The only dish receivers that have that programming mode are the 811 & 921

Have you tried varying the distance and using a dark room or other learning tricks found here?

Ok, we're getting somewhere! My dish remote is the older style that you showed from the radio shack link above.
Also, I haven't tried learning the remote in complete darkness, but that maybe a possibility. Is there a post that I can read with various tricks for learning remotes? Thanks again
