Just got a Sony RDR-VX500, combination DVD/VHS player/recorder. Does anyone happen to have an MDX file for this device that I could import into MX700 remote?

Many thanks in advance!

I don't see an MXD file nor a CCF for that device, but it shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to learn all of the codes from the factory remote. That way, you can just put the buttons right where you want them the first time around.

If you're also looking for discretes (separate on/off commands for example), take a look at your Sony remote and see if the model number (of the remote) matches any of those in the IR database. Even one that's close would likely work fine.

I've tried every code available for discrete on-off. No luck! I always program it as two devices and include the DVD and VCR select button on the device macro for the appropriate device. When you select DVD or VCR on the factory remote, all of the IR codes for play, stop, etc. are different for both sources. Keep that in mind when you are learning the remote!

If somebody has a better solution, I'm listening!

Many thanks to everyone for the help....Great idea to set up the DVD and VCR functions as seperate devices. That'll simplify things for the wife and kids as well.

I was playing with it the other night and think I might have a workaround for the problem of no discreet on/off codes (really strange that a unit that costs as much as this one does, would not have discreet on/off codes???...I can take some solace in the fact that I bought it as a floor model and payed way less than normal price for it).

Anyway...it looks like the machine will power on when it gets a "DVD tray open" command. I was thinking I might be able to set it up, in the main system power on macro, to just a "tray open" followed by a tray closed command. This might get the device to power up (would not toggle the power) but then cancel the tray open command so it would look like it just turned on normally.

Anyone tried this?

Thanks again for all the help!

Karl
