I have a Pioneer HTZ-55DV home theatre system. I had to send both remotes (MX-500 and HTZ-55DV) to URC for reprogramming since the MX-500 could not learn. Now works great. Had to pay shipping costs to URC, but well worth it.

Sugguest calling their support line for instructions (don't bother e-mailing, you won't get a response).

I tried emailing URC twice, never got a response. Decided to buy a One For All URC-8811 (less than $20, and I needed a remote in the guest room to control a TV and DVD player) and learned the Pioneer commands to it, then to the MX-500. Finally got all those commands (which according to CCF2MX were longer than the MX-500 can store) from the Pioneer 1014 to work, ALL of them, from the inputs to the surround modes, to the sleep, dialog enhancement, mute, etc. I don't know how the 8811 is truncating the codes from the Pioneer to make them work, but it does.

A better remote then the 8811 to use is the RS 15-2116, just because it still has code AMP0013, which is the only pioneer code that accept advanced codes.

Ok so let me get this straight... For me to get my MX-500 remote to be able to control the surround functions on my Pioneer 1014 (such as THX, Dolby) I have to buy another learning remote and teach the original surround command from the original Pioneer remote to the "new" remote, and then teach it from that remote to the MX-500???

What does this mean? Right now I can get either the One4All URC-8811, or the Radio Shack 15-2116 to use as my intermediate remote. But I don't know what AMP0013 is?

For ten bucks more than the URC 8811, you can get the superior URC 8910 which is easily upgraded by phone (the 8811 has to be sent back to URC for an upgrade).

AMP 0013 is the code used to set up your remote to work with the receiver/amp. Same code I used for my Pioneer VSX-D912

I have a Pioneer 1014 amp. I sent in my URC-6131 to OneForAll and they sent it back with the ability to accept the AMP0013. (Does this also mean that it's now JP-1 compatible?) But about all this 0013 code does is allow me to turn my amp on and off and the volume up and down. How can I program the remote to do some of the advanced functions, such as change the Surround Mode? (Sorry to be so clueless; I'm new to this stuff.)

The codes are here, to them to a key, do the following:

1. press AUD
2. press and hold SET for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-4
4. tap SET for one blink
5. enter 3 digit advanced code
6. pick a key

Yes, the 6131 is now jp1-ready.

That's exactly what I've been doing. It blinks twice after I program a code. But it doesn't work -- it doesn't perform the function on the Pioneer 1014.

Am I doing something wrong?

For instance, I want to program some surround mode control. When the advanced codes list says this:

165 SUR.............Surround Mode

I type in 165, it blinks twice, and the button has zero functionality, Is there something else? What does the SUR mean there after the 165?

Actually those codes are for much older pioneer receivers, like 15 years ago. You can search Advanced codes(EFC), Tap SET, then enter 0-0-0, the command won't fire until the third digit, then try 001 and so on, up and until 255. jotting down whenever you find a command. Be careful, theres reset command that erases all you stations and settings.

In other words, just follow the instructions up above, with the 9-9-4 and everything, but just start with 000 and work my way up to 255, searching for codes?

Wow, you'd think someone would already have posted the codes for such a popular receiver. But if that's the case, I guess I'll try.

As for the reset code, um, how exactly can I be "careful"? If I stumble on it, it erases everything -- but just for that AUD device, right? So I could just reprogram the AMP0013 into my URC 6131 and key in the codes I've discovered and written down.

Man, I sure hope I'm understanding you correctly.

No, no need to use the 994 procedure to just to test. Press AUD, tap SET once, and enter 000, the command will fire, and the receiver might respond. The Reset command doesn't reset the remote, you will lose the Radio stations you might have programmed into the receiver itself. Let it happen, just ontinue searching the commands till you get to 255.

I have searched EFC's for pioneer commands many times, I look for certain commands, when I find them, I stop. these include:

061-CDR/TAPE, the old tape command doesn't work.
192 DVD/LD
191- Right cursor
195- left cursor
193- Down
189- Up

I never looked for the Surround command, I have migraines, static and Surround sets them off.:(

I have non idea how you figured out that 191, 195, 193 and 189 did anything. They did nothing for me. I also found no surround controls. After running through all 255, here's all I got.
036 CD
037 Sleep 30 minutes
052 TV/SAT
061-CDR/TAPE, the old tape command doesn't work.
065 DVR/VCR
104 Cycles through devices
105 Mute
118 Video 1
119 Mute
122 Video 2
170 TUner
192 DVD/LD
234 test mode
244 power on/off
251 off

That's pretty disappointing. I sent my 6131 in to be upgraded and it really can't do 75 percent of the functions on the Pioneer 1014. Sigh. I'm pretty surprised and disappointed by this. Why send the remote in at all?

I never said I had the 1014, the cursor pad does alot on my vsx-711. And all the commands from the link in original post work on my vsx-D1S. I suggest then moving to PC-programmable Mx-series remote.

I guess I just don't understand why OFA had me send it in in the first place. Is there any place I can send this thing to get the cable hooked to it so I can take advantage of JP-1?
