Daniel, according to a message you posted last week, you have now had in your possession the elusive, and much anticipated, MX-1000 for 10 days. I'm chomping at the bit to hear about it. Come on, give us a brief review; or, at least, tell us when the full review will be available.

I've completed the photo shoot, but still have to finish programming it and writing the review. I had to finish a few other things first -- remote review section, T2 file area, etc. Plus last night we had a DNS snafu which took a few hours to resolve.

If you have specific questions about it, feel free to ask...

Will it have your seal of approval, and should we pre-order it now?

I guess my one burning question is this: is the GUI completely adjustable, a la the pronto?

I would only like to know if you would have any doubts about pre-ordering yourself after what you have seen so far. I want to pre-order myself but won't until I know there are no major issues.

I second AndrewC's question: is the GUI customizable like the Pronto, or are we confined to the few rectangular buttons shown in the pictures?

Sinned: too early to say.

AndrewC: I don't have the PC Software, so I can't say. Right now, on the base remote, you can select from 15 button sizes and styles. You can add buttons, copy, remove etc. Buttons can be moved on-screen with pixel accuracy (via the joystick). However this can make it difficult to keep things in line since there's no grid. Text can be up to two lines per button in a small or large font size. However, you must also manually center text labels, both vertically and horizontally. All of this makes me believe the PC software will allow for a lot of customization (a lot easier too). Will there be the chance for your own bitmaps? I don't know...

Daniel, any ETA on the remotes themselves or the software? Are they planning on getting a copy of the software to you soon?

Thats odd.. The software wasn't one of the "named" holdups was it?

Will you at least be doing a piece on what you do have.
Signal Strength, visual , ergo, etc..

Also, Daniel, is the display B&W only, or is it grayscale like the Pronto?

Peter: I don't have any additional ETAs... the screen has three colors: black, white and gray.

Three colors? That's actually surprising. If you're going to use 2 bits for the color (which you need to have more than 2 colors), why not have 4 colors, like the Pronto does?

Do you think there might be a 4th color (lighter or darker gray) that's just not really accessible from the built-in programming?

Looking very very closely at the screen, it seems that there MAY actually be a dark gray color. The problem is it seems to be about a 85% black -- very hard to tell from black itself. The light gray is quite nice.

So did they tell you why there isn't even a beta-software copy available yet ?

Looks like software will be out next month (whether that means September or October I'm not sure).
