I received another message from Universal-Remotes once again confirming that they are committed to making the July ship date (what ever that date may be):

"I unfortunately do not have an official ship date, but I'm being continuously
assured that the MX-1000 remote controls will ship in the coming weeks of
July.

Regards,
Mike Gifford

After reading everyone else's saga of waiting and waiting for this remote to be released, I contacted them myself. This is the reply I received this morning about the MX-1000 release:

The honest answer would be July. We have not confirmed a true ship date at this time, but I know they are almost ready for release. Early July? Before the 15th? This I cannot confirm, but I know it will be July for sure.

I think we will be shipping the second or third week of July, and if you can wait until then, your patience will be rewarded with a phenomenal remote control.

Mike Gifford

I am glad that I only discovered the MX-1000 4 days ago. I would definitely have given up long ago if I had been waiting months like many of you. Makes me wonder which of the remaining months of 2000 will be the month that I cancel my order as well!?

FWIW, I received a printed catalog a couple of days ago from everythingwireless.com and the MX-1000 is listed at $299.95 It does not mention a release date or that the unit is immediately available or unavailable...

Checked everythingwireless.com's website and it says it's out of stock. How can an item be out of stock that has never been in stock? The more I hear the less I am to believe that July will be the month either. Where was that post about comparable alternatives to the MX-1000?

Comparable alternates? Try the Pronto, Take Control or TheaterTouch. But if they say July, let's wait for July!

Here is what UniversalRemoteControl.com is saying about the MX-1000 release:

Our distributor has an arrival date of the remotes on the 14th.
Which means they could show up
a couple days early or a couple days late. From all we've heard from
all sources, we really do
expect them in then. Of course, once they arrive we will pick them
up as soon as possible
and do our processing and ship them out.

We have orders dating back to March, but we have alot on order so we
expect to fill them all
when the first batch arrives.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Brad where on the website did you find the information. I just checked www.universalremotecontrol.com and couldn't find anything related to an exact date. I must admit I do love the price, its the lowest I've seen.

Cy,
My last post was actually from an e-mail I received from universalremotecontrol.com after I contacted them about the status of my order. I believe their website is still saying early July. I will believe they are shipping them the day I am holding it in my hand.

On the off chance that Mike Gifford is actually reading this thread (given the flames that have been going on), please let me make the following suggestion:

Please get a review model to Daniel Tonks as soon as you can. Even before you send them to resellers.

A few months ago I might have bought one of these remotes sight unseen, but now I'm going to wait until I hear what Daniel has to say about the MX-1000. I imagine there are others of the same opinion.

Mike Gifford E mailed me today to say that he is no longer confident in a July release because of a just discovered software bug. He said they are "shooting" for an August release date.

Here we go again !

It appears to be true. Early August. They're not confident they can get it out by the end of July.

I suppose their advertising could honestly read "The most anticipated remote control of the new millennium!"

We are still shooting for a July release date. We are rapidly working on the bug related to the delay in the MX-1000, and since it would be unrealistic to say when the bug would be corrected, we would say that August would be the worst case senario.

We apologize for the long delay, but the wait will not be much longer now. We are at the home stretch.
