Just to find out...has anyone with any of the MX remotes been able get a 4ES or 5ES Sony Receiver's DSP functions to work? I can get the DSP toggle to work, and almost all of the other functions...but not the specific DSP settings. Here's what I've tried...to no avail:

#1: Built in 4ES in the MX Editor software.
#2: Learn directly from the OEM remote.
#3: Imported 3 different CCF files.
#4. Learned my 30ES DSP Protocol from my Rat Shack remote.
#5: Imported a new protocol for my Rat Shack remote via the JP1 cable, and learned and tried that.

Like I said, everything EXCEPT the DSP settings works just fine. My 4ES is currently set to AV1 and two-way communication is turned off.

Any additional ideas would be groovy. Many thanks.

I don't have a 4ES; I have an STR-DB930. I've tried everything you have except #5 and can't get the DSP settings to work either.

Try pre-programmed code AUDIO 184, there are DSP codes in that device. You may need a bit of trial and error to find them all, but a previous poster found:

ButtonCode

Page 2, "H"Cinema Studio C

Hope that helps! If you find more, please post them!

Cool...I'll try that. Annoying that Sony changed their DSP protocol for the 4ES.......

Even if only one of the DSP settings works, maybe I can tear it apart to see what they're doing different from the 30ES, 50ES and 333ES models. I'm assuming there's something different in the initial bits sent. Maybe a timeing thing or something.

I'll post the results tonight.

JohnMark,

I am wondering which MX remote you are using. It is probably not an MX-500 like mine. Here is an idea which may or may not be helpful to you, depending on your remote. I discovered empirically that the DSP codes for my STR-DE935 amp could be "broken up" into smaller pieces and learned to a RS 15.1994 remote. In other words, I tried training from the original remote to the 1994 on buttons L1 and L2. Neither L1 or L2 worked, but when I hit L1 and then L2, the desired function (move to "normal surround" if memory serves) did work.

I think this has to do with the fact that the code is longer than the memory allocated per learned button. The MX-500 with IR-Clone has some "intentional overflow" capabilities which may prove useful. I found that with the new home theater, I no longer need to switch between normal and "night theater" mode, so I abandoned this effort. Now I get by using just the SFLD+ and SFLD- buttons, which I only need rarely.

Hi JohnMark - I've got a 4ES and a MX-700. I've tried almost all the things you've tried with the same result - no joy on the DSP modes but thankfully, the scroll works (MODE+/MODE-). The 2CH, Normal Surround, Direct Input etc. all seem to work, just not the sound fields (DSP) direct codes. I'd also be very interested if you have any success.

I did find another link in a post that you could take a look at which is
[Link: anycities.com] but have not had the time to dig into it to see if a solution can be derived from that info.

Looking forward to the results you come up with.

Cheers,

Doug

Doug,

I've tried the information in the reference you cited with my STR-DB930 and have had no luck with the DSP ones. I suspect the same will be true for the 4ES.

Opichiasm...
Before I forget, there are some downloadable codes specifically for the DB930 on the JP1 yahoo group. Have you tried those?

If that doesn't work...try the 50ES DSP codes...they worked great on my 30ES. Worth a shot.

Email me if you need more info on the JP1 group.

Still fiddling around.....

David...
I tried that code. I get different results. I have no "H" on page 2. None the less...I pressed every button on every screen and got no DSP changes other than the stuff I already had. (Like the toggle +/-).

Chris...
I'm using a 700. Although I bought a 500 from David as well that should be here on Wednesday. :-)
I have the Rat Shack 1994, 2104 (blah) and 2116. I used the 1994 and 2116 for all my testing this evening. I downloaded EVERY Sony DSP device off the JP1 website and tried them all. No dice on any of them. No real clue either as to what's the missing link.

Doug...
Yeah...I'm like you. I know about that site, but haven't really sat down and read it. I am NOT a protocol programmer....so some of the stuff on that site just bounces off my forehead.

Anyway...I'll post a 4es dsp question up on the JP1 site and see if anything comes back at me.

JohnMark,

I joined the JP1 Yahoo Group and found a txt file for the STR-DB930. I opened the file and saw a lot of numbers and a heck of a lot of commas. Is there something a moron (me) can do with this file and an MX-800? I have a Radio Shack remote I've used for learning discrete codes to the 800, but I don't have the JP1 hardware.

Thanks.

Opchiasm,
No....you need to either build or buy the JP1 cable, then download what's called the KM spreadsheet and a program called IR.EXE.

There are a number of FAQ and README files located on the JP1 Yahoo Group...but I have to say...it will take a little time investment on your part to get up and going. Also check out the FAQ on the new JP1 Forum (not yahoo). Oh yeah...and [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Nutshell:
What you would do is open the file you found in the spreadsheet. Put the values shown in the spreadsheet into IR.EXE. You use that program to send the info into your Rat-Shack remote via the JP1 cable. Try it out....if it works...then learn the new signals into your MX.

It sounds complicated...and you'll likely remove all your own hair the first go at it....but it's easy once you get the hang of things.

I talked via email with The Robman of OFA Fame and he asked that I send him my 4ES remote.

So...off it goes. Maybe the Meister can work his magic and we'll all have our codes!!

Keep your fingers crossed.

Consider them crossed - this would be a coup if it comes true. Let us know how it turns out!

Thanks,

Doug

Did you guys try the codes for the TA-E9000ES preamp. which uses the RM-TP501E two-way remote? They're in my MX-700 file which has both discrete codes for a whole bunch of the soundfields and speaker levels as well as the generic toggle codes.

I can't get these codes to learn, nor the CCF to import properly, but I got them from somebody who had done them using some IR editor.
