My MX-500 is already programmed to control my receiver, xbox, tv, HD STB, dvd player, boombox. I even used a radio shack remote to teach it several very useful discrete codes.

But here's my problem: I'm trying to teach the MX-500 the directional arrow buttons on my Sony PS2 remote. When I go to the setup menu on my MX-500 and try to learn the arrow buttons, the MX-500 says "GOOD". But then when I later try to use those buttons on my MX-500, I get no response from my PS2. Every other button on my PS2 remote can be learned correctly to my MX-500.

Anyone have any experience with this problem?
in case you didn't know, PS2 = Playstation 2

Which buttons on the MX-500 are you trying to learn to?

I'm trying to learn to the directional arrow buttons on the MX-500. But it doesn't work when I try to teach the commands to the LCD buttons either.

This works for me.
I have the Madcats IR DVD remote. The dongle is in the PS2 controller 1. Then I used the PS2 DVD contoller to set the buttons for "DVD" of the MX remote.

Sorry to necro a post from a decade ago, but since I resolved this issue for myself today, I figured someone else might be interested in the solution. I was able to get my MX-500 to learn the PS2 remote codes for the directional buttons by using the "Duck Blind" method described here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

It took me a few tries to get each key to learn the code successfully, but now my MX-500 is controlling most aspects of my PS3 for me now.
