Well, I've been lurking on this forum for a while and
am a bit dismayed by some of the experiences
chronicled here.

The hardware looks like the perfect solution for me,
but the software seems like a mess. Downloaded the
editing tool, and had a less than fabuluous time
trying to customize a layout.

Are there any success stories out there? I realize
that users will usually post only if they are encountering problems. Any encouraging words anyone?

Would HTM be willing to publish data formats? Maybe
even some source code? :) The embedded software
engineer in me is somewhat interested in the challenge
and I am inspired by Jason's excellent efforts in
this regard....

:)

Eric: Buy the MX-1000! At the very least, you can use its on-board editing to get your system up and running really well! It takes a little doing, but well worth it! You obviously like the hardware, which is unique to it. How many Pronto users wanted that coveted joystick and didn't even get it on the colour Pronto?

HTM made a conscious decision to have the on-board editing. Some people don't have computers, or want to customize their remotes beyond having the proper buttons for their equipment.

So, you're going to have a great remote (I have one and that joystick...... being able to be programmed with functions........ is such a joy to use!), and then have an even better one as the bugs in the software are worked out.

And as I am in constant contact with HTM, I know they are working feverishly to fix those bugs. It is like the first ProntEdit...... they had their same share of problems. But, with HTM, you're getting a manufacturer that will get its software as bug-free as humanly possible and will continue to update the softwares features.

And they are committed to customer service. Anyone know of customer service from Philips???

Believe me, the remote ergonimics are what you love, so get the remote and be patient as HTM improves the software. In the meantime, you'll quite enjoy using the MX-1000 even with the customization that you can do right on the remote!

I second Greg's enthusiasm. I've been using mine since November and all the work of getting it to work is worth. The joystick and transport controls are great! Actually, I have owned two -the first one was ruined by wine spilled on it by my gal.

Hello

I have had great success changing my MX1000. I won't say it has gone perfect but what does, but it hasn't been an unpleasant experience. It takes a little time to get use to the program but it does on a lot of programs. I have had mine for 2 months and have change dmine completely 3 times, due to figuring out better ways to do them or change pages tomeet certain needs.

The other day I downloaded the buttons from the site listed in this forum and screwed up when I was converting the buttons and had to delete the entire program and start over but it was my fault. This last time it took about 3 to 4 hours to completely redesign and reprogram my buttons but the black ones look great!!! Last time it took several days to do what I did in a few hours. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again

Thanks

I agree that the pros outweigh the cons with this remote. Despite the software problems, I am really happy with the hardware. While I am not holding my breath waiting for new software to be released, I have found enough workarounds through this forum so the the remote does everything I want it to so far.

I'm very impressed with the remote as well. That's why I'm spending so much of my free time (and not so free time) working on decoding the LDT format. Unfortunately, since I've spent so much time reverse engineering the LDT format, I haven't got to actually use the remote much. I will be 10x happier with the product once I get the pronto->mx-1000 discrete code translator going.

I'd really like it if MX-1000 would put me out of this business, even though I am having a lot of fun working on the remote. Ultimately they should be able to provide far better integration into their software suite than I will be able to provide by myself.

Greg, I emailed HTM asking for specs on the , hopefully I'll hear from them. Can you pass along a good word to urge them to help me, and us, out.

Jason: I found out it is a Samsung processor, but they neglected to tell me the actual mode number. I await their reply.

Anything else you really need to know that would help you in your conversion program?

Forward me your email to HTM, ok?

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback. So I guess
MX-1000 it is.

I'm very interested in supporting the 'underground
open software effort' for this tool. This is the
primary reason I'm attracted to the Pronto (but the
Pronto is too damn big for my hands and the lack of
hard buttons is disconcerting).

Now where's my credit card...
