Best Buy is advertising the URC-9800 for $100. The add says that the remote will work through walls which is a definite selling feature for me. Will the MX-1000 do the same?

Will the 9800 be enough of a remote for me? I have a 2 TVs, 3 VCRs, Receiver, Cable box and DVD, which are 8 devices. That is the max for the 9800 remote.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

The problem with the 9800 is that it's learning memory is limited. But, if you've got 8 "normal" devices it'll work fine. The MX-1000 is a completely different beast to the URC-9800... by the way, the list price for the URC-9800 is about $129, though it can be had for much less.

I would add that the URC-9800 has RF (works through walls) remote capability and the MX-1000 does not. Also, don't expect the 9800 to duplicate all your other remotes' functions, particularly your receiver. If you don't mind keeping your old remotes around for advanced functions, but want the RF capability, then go with the 9800. If you want to truly replace all your remotes, go with the MX-1000.

He can always get an add-on IR->RF->IR system and choose another remote. Not only is the 9800's memory limited but also you can only learn on the keys designated for learning, not any key like other remotes. I think there are better choices for the money (HTM SL-9000, Sony VL900)
