Has anyone found a way to successfully upload/download the contents of their MX-1000 without the software from the company's website (which is worse than bad).

If so - what techniques - and what baud settings?
...and what else did you learn?

I'm considering sending my back (for a refund) - the software is so incredibly bad on the PC. Many have suggested on this forum that one should forget the PC software, and just program the remote. But - before I do that - I'd like to know I can save/restore with my PC. Can't get the stupid PC software the company supplies to do this correctly (many many bugs). I figured that a "capture" and then resending the "capture" to the device might work - but I got lost after that (I was hoping for ASCII dumps from the device - but I suspect I'm just out of luck there).

I have been able to upload/download, but only after countless attempts, and crashes. I do find using the remote itself vs the PC software more stable, but much more time consuming. I just stuck to making screens in the PC software, and the doing *touch-up* work in the remote. During this initial *setup* time I was extremely frustrated, but now that I got it set up *perfectly*, I am very happy with it. I should also mention that once you have your remote programed, the manual states that you can remove the batteries, and the remote will keep your learned codes and settings for an extended period of time. IMO, this remote is not really ready for the *masses*, it is really for the *tech-savy*, until they come up with a more mature version of the software. If you do *stick it out*, and finally are able to tweak it until it is *just right*, I'm sure you'll be happy with the remote. The question is, do you want to put that kind of time and effort into it?

Well, my setup took two solid nights -- including creating the button images. After a while you figure out what you can and can't do, and how often to save your work.
