Does anyone know if you can program both a Tivo and a Sony Directv/Tivo with the Home Theater MX-1000 remote.
Or can anyone recommed a remote that can handle both Tivo's and other Home Theater equipment.
thanks,
Larry

I use my MX-1000 to control my Sony SA Tivo, and I find the joystick and hardbuttons exceptional, and indispensible for Tivo. The MX-1000 has no *built-in* codes for the Sony Tivo boxes, so you will have to *learn* every button. You will probably wish to make custom LCD screens for Tivo also. This remote is NOT something you can just pick up and use. It could take days, or weeks even to get everything adjusted *just right*. During this time, the buggy software will have you wanting to smash the remote into a 1000 pieces several times. Eventually though, when you *finally* get everything working, and adjusted, you will wonder how you ever got along without the MX-1000. It is so frustrating to get to that point though, that many people return the remote before they ever do. I would never use an LCD remote for Tivo, they may be fine for just playing a DVD movie, or controlling other aspects of home theater easily, but for Tivo you constantly use the pause, play, Tivo, 8-second rewind(sometimes your finger is on the button the whole time as you watch), ect.......and I practically guarantee that if you do not get a remote with hard buttons, that you will just go back to using the standard Tivo remote. If you don't think you can handle the initial frustration of setting up the MX-1000, you should also take a look at the Sony RM-VL-900, the Home Theater Master SL-9000, Home Theater Master MX-500 (when available shortly), and the RTI Theater Touch T2 (if it isn't out of your price range).....

I agree with IeraseU regarding the need for hard buttons with Tivo. To answer your questions regarding controlling both a DirecTv w/Tivo and a standalone unit, I use my MX-1000 for both (both Philips units) and it works great. You just have to set each unit up for different remote codes through the setup menu.
