I’ve had the SL-9000 for quite some time now, and it is the best remote I’ve ever had. It flawlessly learned all the codes I sent it from a wide variety of devices. I just bought a JVC S-VHS VCR (HR-S9800U) and while I did get most of the buttons to work, it was a lot harder to do than for other devices. Some buttons seemed to be “learned” properly, but did not work. Re-learning usually solved it. The biggest problem was with 4 pairs of buttons to program the VCR’s timer. While some work OK, others only work on every other press of the SL-9000’s button. Another advances the timer data by 2 units instead of 1, but only if you keep the SL’s button continuously pressed. Pressing only once does nothing. One button I just can’t get to learn at all. Most of the other main buttons, while taking multiple “learns,” do seem to work, but the timer buttons work as described above. Overall, the situation is usable, but it would be nice to get all the buttons to work properly.

Interestingly, I also own a JVC HR-S7300U (have had it for a long time) and the SL controls all the functions properly and I had no difficulty learning any of its buttons. Did JVC change the way their remotes work?

Thanks,

Very interesting!

I was trying to teach my MX1000 some specific JVC VCR codes just last night. I also found that I had a difficult time teaching the remote even if it did say the learning was successful. I found that first teaching my Denon learning remote the JVC codes and teaching the MX1000 with the Denon, the process worked flawlessly. It was almost as if the JVC original remote was not strong enough to teach the MX1000 properly.

Not very elegant but a work around none the less. This may be the same for the SL-9000 as well.

(The MX1000 just gets better every night as tweaking continues.)

Brian,

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately the only learning remote I have is the SL-9000.
