Thought I'd mention this, since it seems possible that other people will experience the same problem that I had. Immediately upon trying to download new configuration data into the remote, the existing software was erased, the download failed, and my remote was rendered useless (very frustrating considering that I had owned the thing for <30 min).

I couldn't get a download to take during subsequent attempts, until I realized that the HotSync manager software for my Palm Pilot was holding the COM port open and not allowing other software to access it. Once I closed HotSync Manager, everything was lovely.

Hope this helps someone.

Yup, that one gets a lot of folks. Generally downloads to the remote work OK -- it's uploads that can cause problems.
