This is my first experience with a programmable remote. Do you normally program a device button on the main screen so that it turns on the unit (e.g. TV) when the device is selected ? If yes, then how do you keep the unit from turning off if that device button is again pressed from the main screen, while the unit is on, to simply bring that device's screens back. Also, is there any way to program a button for "System OFF", so that any and all devices that are on will go off ? Thank You.

Hi Frank,

With the MX-1000, you can program Macros. What a macro is is a bunch of steps that you program. I think the Mx-1000 can store up to 32 steps in each macro. Here is an example of I macro I use when I want to watch my Sat.

Turn on receiver
Switch to TV/DBS
Turn on Sat Receiver
Turn on TV
Swtich TV input to Input 1 (what my receiver is hooked up to)
make Sat the active remote function.

So by pressing one macro button, That I named "Watch Sat" all of the above steps happen!

You can do the same create a macro that turns everthing off!

Hope this helps

What you are describing is referred to as a "discrete". If you search the HTM forums for "discrete" you will find this discussed a lot, but the bottom line is that NO, unless you can teach the MX-1000 a discrete from some other device there is not way to do what you want. Hopefully in the future, we will be able to edit the actual IR data for each button, and apparently there are libraries of files for the Pronto so people can already do this with that device, but not yet for the MX-1000.
