Has anyone had experience with learning codes into the MX-1000 and then uploading them to the PC? Have you been able to download them back into the MX-1000?

Technically it should work, though some have had problems.

Daniel, you are truly the master of the understatement. ;-)

I, like everyone else, have had problems. I've never been able to upload learned codes to the computer, and have therefore never tried downloading learned codes to the remote. I have successfully downloaded the OS to the remote-- This seems to work flawlessly everytime.

There must be some problem with the RS232 pacing or handshake on the learned code upload. (Gosh, that sounded good...kinda like I knew what I was talking about.) ;-)

I've been able to do this correctly. I had my first mx-1000 for a week and had changed many of the device pages using the software. I had also "learned" all of my devices into each button directly on the remote. I had uploaded these to the p/c. I then had a problem with the remote's lcd screen not accepting anything. I sent it to the company and they sent me a new one. During this, there was a forum message somewhere in here from Mike Gifford about changing your com port settings and then downloading the software again. I did this, received my new remote, plugged it up to the serial cable, did a download of both my "operating" program and the "learned" program from the p/c and they both worked successfully and my remote had all of my customized pages and the buttons operated everything correctly!!

But not everybody will be that lucky. It depends on your screen design. There are screen designs that look great on the remote, but when uploaded produce a corrupt data base even if all the handshaking, comm ports, latest software, and all that other stuff are perfect. The learned codes do not appear to be susceptible to this bug, just the design model.

I just got two MX1000's and initially had some trouble getting the upload and download process to work. I found a trick that seems to work 100% of the time. It appears that the software tries to guide you to this procedure but it is very subtle. Maybe this won't work for everyone, but I thought I would give my experience.

1) When uploading from the MX1000 I found I MUST click the "upload" button on the PC FIRST, then touch the "Upload" on the LCD screen. If I do the reverse, it fails every time.

2) When Downloading from the PC to the MX1000 the procedure is reversed. First touch the "Download" button on the LCD screen and then click the "Download" button on the PC panel.

Again, I have performed this operation about 30 times now with 100% accuracy. I am really getting to love this product. (Can't wait for a manual though).
