SHOULD YOU RESET THE REMOTE BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD A NEW OPERATING PROGRAM. I HAVE NOT BEEN DOING THAT BUT THINGS SEEM TO WORK OKAY.

No, downloading basically does the same thing.
