I've been trying to get the upload/download features of the remote to work without success. First I had an Run Time Error '6' from the software - solved by reinstalling. Next the software was thinking that it was downloading - the software bar would move but the remote would not and then tell me download failed. Now, somehow, in trying to download the operating program - the remote has no operating program (it says it's 'empty') and I still can't get the download to work! I wonder how it could delete the operating program from the remote if nothing was transfering!

More importantly - somebody PLEASE tell me how to fix this! Before the remote was fine, I just couldn't customize it on the computer, now the remote is worthless. Please help...

Still haven't got it to work on my home machine, but on a whim I went to work and was able to get it working on that computer. Why would it work on one Win98 machine and not another - who knows?

I think if the download to the remote stops part-way, the program on the remote is effectively erased. Have you tried several times? Also, since the MX-1000 isn't to descriptive on why things don't work, have you tried anything else on the port to ensure it works? That's you've told the software which port you're using? No Palm Pilot or other port monitoring software loaded?

The odd thing from when it erased is that I NEVER got it to download anything to the remote from that computer, so I don't think it could have erased from being partially loaded. I've tried changing the port in the software, but I don't normally use anything on the port.

A couple of stray bytes could have made the difference. It seems the MX/computer don't actually sync up -- they just listen for stuff and either blindly receive or blindly send.

I ran into the same problem. I was uploading and downloading, and for no apparent reason the download to the remote stopped working. I then checked the remote and the program was gone from there, therefore registering "empty". I tried several times to download and it would always fail. I even called Univeral Remote Control, but they could not help. I then took the remote to the office and tried it there. It worked. I then took it home again and now it worked at home as well. The computer is the same at work, running Win98 etc. I can't explain why it wouldn't work at home and then work at the office, and then work at home again. It was all very strange. It has worked fine ever since.
