I just got my new remote...trying to get it to connect. When I try to upload or download everything seems to start working....

The computer shows a progress bar but gets halfway and then I get an error.

Upload or Download failure.
Please check your cable.

Now the cable is plugged in securely...anything else I should do....I tried two different computers...both are Win2000 machines.

Thanks
Ed

I assume you've set the MX-1000 to download/upload mode through the Setup menu? The MX-1000's screen should show a progress bar. If it doesn't move or seems out-of-sync with the computer's (ie. the remote is at 10% and the computer is at 50%), the download won't work... try again.

First I start the program on the computer to upload and download then I hit the upload/download command on the MX-1000.

The MX-1000 shows a progress bars and completes....The computer shows a progress bar but lags behind the MX-1000 and then stops at about 50% and then gives the error message about the cable....

Any further suggestions?

So are you uploading or downloading? Each requires a different order of events.

I was having similar problems in that I tried to upload to the p/c, but never got a status bar on the p/c. It would just say failed, check cable connection. I then saw Daniel's comment about com1 sharing with Palm Pilot. I did have hot-sync software running during these failures. I disabled hot-sync and tried the upload operating program to p/c and it worked fine. I tried the upload learned program to p/c and it failed like you describe with 2 bars in the graph, I did retry and got 3 bars, then I did retry again and got it to succeed (each time canceling the remote function and doing the up-load button when prompted to do so). Hope this might help someone.

Daniel,

I was trying to upload from the remote.....

Because of the pixel issues and this issue...I was requested to return the remote today for an exchange.

Thanks...

I had the same problem with Windows 2000. Tried Windows 98 and it worked fine.

For what it's worth, my experience has been that the order of how you initiate the upload and download seems to make a great deal of difference. I have performed the process about 30 times successfully once I followed these steps. I use Win98 and also changed the com settings to what is recommended by this forum.

1) When DOWNLOADING
- Click DOWNLOAD on the LCD first
- Click DOWNLOAD on PC dialog box next

2) When UPLOADING
- Click UPLOAD on PC dialog box first
- Then touch the UPLOAD on the LCD

Note the procedures are reversed. I don't know if this is just working for me, but if I vary this procedure the process fails every time. It doesn't seem to matter if I am working with learned codes or the operating program options. They both work great for me now.

Yes -- as soon as you initiate the procedure on the actual sending device, off it goes -- it doesn't seem to try to connect to the remote, it just starts blindly tossing out data.
