Well, I've been trying to work with the software I downloade from Universal Remotes, but its not going well. I realize this is a v1 release of the software...but it seems to me to be unusable. But I read Daniel's review and it seems he was able to actually setup some screens and save some time over programming via the remote. But:

1) My performance sucks. Every time I click the mouse to do ANYTHING in MXOS it pauses about 2-3 seconds. When I select a button, text, anything.

2) Text flies all over the screen. Seeming for no reason. After entering text on a couple of buttons I thought "cool!" I'm saving time (since entering text on the remote is a pain). But then, all of the sudden I'll click the mouse to select something and text disappears...of a different button. Maybe I delete a text line and text jumps off an unrelated button onto blank screen.

Is anyone else having this sort of problem with the software? If so, it seems to me that MXOS is definately not ready for prime time. Seems little more than a demonstration of what might be possible at some undisclosed time in the future...

I have had no such problems with the software. I have some strange things happening with teaching the remote commands, but the software has been very stable on my system. I am running a P3 with WIN98 2nd ed.

Well I've realized that I was entering button text improperly some of the time and that seems to be the reason I was having text problems.

But the 2 to 3 second delay on almost every thing is still present. Is this a problem for anyone else running Win 95 on a 200 Pentium class machine?

I read in another thread that the program reloads all the button files after each command, how long this would take I don't know, but I also have a little bit of a lag of 1 -2 seconds on a AMD K6 466...

The operating program is the buttons, placement of buttons, text, and so on. The learned program is supposed to be the IR commands that you learn from your other remotes or program using a code from the manual. There is no straight forward way to edit the learned program yet, at least as far as I can tell. I have uploaded and downloaded the learning program a number of times and have had no problems.

Well, I can't get the software to work at all. I spent 4 hours programming changes into the remote, then I decided to upload all this stuff to my computer. Downloaded and installed the software, selected upload operating program, then upload learned functions. The computer showed that it was uploading, then saved the files. But when I open the uploaded files, all I have on my computer screen are the original default pages, not the changed pages that are in my remote. What's wrong??

You are still looking at the default pages even though you uploaded your changes to the computer. On the upper left hand side of the program window you can see the name of the currently opened file.

When you uploaded the file from the remote to the computer, the program should have asked you for a name to save with. Just go under and select the name of the file that you saved.

That last line should have read. -

Just go under the "file" menu to "open" and select the name of the file that you saved.

I did supply a file name, and it saved it under that name. I am looking at my file name in the top left file window, but the image on the screen is the default configuration, not the one I programmed on teh remote! I re-loaded the default file, then my file, andthey are identical. Any ideas?

Can't think of much -- so far I've actually been unable to upload from the remote, but I haven't troubleshooted too far yet.
