I am looking into a learning remote to replace the growing number I must use on a daily basis. Since I am something of a techno-geek and like gadgets of all types I am somewhat drawn to the newer LCD remotes. What I'd like to know is why you chose the MX-1000 over the other remotes. I like the fact that it has more hard buttons and the joystick (I have a tivo and dss) but the pronto seems to have much more support. I realize this is at least partially because it has been around awhile, but do you think the MX-1000 will grow to the same support level?

Basically, I want a remote that will be able to grow as my system does. Right now it will have many things to control, but I want it to be able to expand as technology does.

I chose it because it's a flexible, programmable remote with a joystick + hard VCR buttons, making it perfect for Tivo and audio.

Why Oh Why didn't they include hard buttons on the MX-1000 for Menu, Guide, Info, Exit, like on the SL-9000 or the upcoming MX-500? Cable, Satelite, DVD, CD, VCR... they all use some combination of these buttons regularly, so why force them to LCD? I channel surf my digital cable all the time, and use Guide, Menu, Info and Exit A LOT. Hard buttons would be the way to go for me.

I'm holding out for Daniel's review of the MX-500 before I decide on which to get. The joystick does look cool, but at least the MX-500 has seperate cursor and transport controls.

The Pronto is extremely powerful; I just prefer a better balance of hard/soft buttons.

Four more hard buttons would have been great, but so far I'm getting by just fine using standard locations on every screen for the same buttons. I have a lot of work to do, but I will have a nice configuration some day.

I can't imagine NOT having the joystick & play/stop/etc/ buttons - don't settle for less than those.
