Old laptop died, and reinstalled MXEditor won't communicate with my newer Aeros MX850, so I'm basically locked out of my remote. Live update won't work due to URC shutting down that site.

If I'm in the market for a remote similar in caliber to my MX850, what should I look at?

Im busy switching over to mx890.. uses same mrf-350 so thats easy ... but need to relearn ccp program now... some similarity to mx-editor but much more capable and complex especially the macro side... im still learning but many guides and training on utube...

850 battery drain bugged me and the whine it used to make when u turned the backlight on... other than that its pretty solid although ive been through many of them now they do fail rather easily - hopefully 890 lasts !

No, it does not, no URC remote does.

Well, that's kind of my point. I'm looking for suggestions on a replacement remote that does not require the URC software that I am locked out of.

(However, I do think the Mx450 comes with a consumer grade version of the software from what I can tell)

MX-450 is programmed on the remote itself.

Ok, since I could not find a copy of the software to work with my later model 850, I researched alternatives, bit the bullet, and ended up buying a Logitech Harmony Elite.

I've seen the light. I suffered with my antiquated URC product for much longer than I should have. I was a diehard fan, having models going back to the early 2000s.

The Harmony Elite is 2017 technology. The 850 is 2001 technology.

I can program with my ipad, it syncs with my smart home products, device response is instant and reliable, and Logitech customer support will add missing codes or commands to the remote simply by emailing them a request (imagine URC doing that, hahah), and there is a charging cradle (no more dead triple As).

Expensive, but worth every penny. I don't miss anything about my 850.

Reply back in 16 years and let us know how the Harmony is chugging along

There is one online authorized URC dealer who can sell you the MX 890 with factory warranty and software. Name begins with S and ends with F. Try google.

There are no authorized online retailers for any current URC products.
