Hello,
I am a big fan of the URC MX line, and currently have three mx-850's. One of them I recently bought used from ebay, and the lcd backlight was constantly on.
After opening it up and putting it on a dc power supply, we found it was triggering a current overload at startup. The problem was traced to a bad/shorted IC, most likely the IC used to control the backlight. The IC was cooking hot, so we removed it and the remote functions normally, except now the backlight does not function.
The number written on the IC is: 305a621, and it has 10 leads on it. However, finding a replacement has been difficult. Does anyone know where a replacement IC can be sourced, so we can get the backlight functioning again?
Thanks,

No helpful suggestions here, but I've encountered the same thing, just checking to see whether you managed to get anywhere with this?
