I just picked up a URI MX-700 "Home Theater Master" remote at a local thrift shop. It included the cable, manual and original box, so I couldn't resist for the price.

My question is: is this still a viable remote? Does URI have current software, that works with newer devices?

I'm also wondering about a new cable, as the original serial type connector is obviously a no go.

If it is not a true contender in this day and age, I'll merely keep it as a novelty in the collection.

FYI, I have the household set up with five Harmony 880s/890s and a 659 for the child's room. So, I'm not sure I would use it even if I can program it.

But I'm curious about the remote and its history. Thanks!

I'd say so. It's old, but should still work to the same capacity as any Harmony remote.

The software seems to still be updated with newer URC databases, but I don't believe URC releases the updatable version to consumers (although not sure how this works with discontinued products). The B&K SR10.1 is the same remote though and you can download the editor for that here: [Link: bkcomp.com]

Although I don't know if that includes updates. However, if you search the "files" area of this site, you can download device files for many components and import them (or send me RC Mail if you need one).

You'll need to either use a USB-Serial converter or a PCI serial card to connect it.

The remote has been around at least a decade but was an excellent remote. I've still got one in the basement.

Hi, I just picked up a MX-700 off of eBay, but it did not come with the serial cable. Do you mind sending me a picture of yours, or send me the spec so I can order one? Thanks.
