I have been working as an IT consultant for a local property management company where I live in Sun Valley, ID for a while and they recently asked me to take over some A/V work as their previous A/V company went belly up a while ago. They have a number of units with old MX-700 remote controls and would like me to program them to work with Apple TV. I am not an A/V distributor and cannot download the MX-editor software anywhere. Does anyone have any recommendations for where I may be able to find it or what I should do? Nobody else in our area is a URC dealer to my knowledge. Thank you for your time and help in advance.

My best advice is to look around a bit and see if you can find a local dealer to help service everything, not just for this project right now, which is very basic. You can download the NXG remote software on this site, which will work for you. The NXG is a rebadged URC remote and will work with the MX700.

Thank you both very much for your help! I will look into having one of the other dealers do the work. The company I'm working for is also interested in upgrading to a newer less complicated remote which would be easier to navigate for the end user. Any suggestions?

There are many options for newer remotes, however I'd talk to one of the local guys first. The MX700 was a very capable remote. The key is it had to be programmed properly. I've seen more poorly programmed remotes than remotes with decent programming, so I could programmer may be able to save them some money. If they were to upgrade, I'd start by looking at the URC MX890. Great remote with enough screen real estate to make it easy to read.
