I am trying to find a codeset for this DVR with working discrete power on & off functions. I have found one with the fuctions on the softkeys, but they do not work. The Hard power buttons do not work independently, both of them turn the box on and off depending on what state it is in.

Does anyone have a codeset with....working....discrete power codes? This would be greatly helpful in perfecting my macros.

Also, does this remote support the Orion (Brokstone) DVCR2002a? I had to learn the remote in, since i did not find it in the wizard, although I only looked for Orion, since i just remembered it was also manufactured under the Brokstone name. I'm having the same issue with it as the DVR, no discrete on/off for macro programming. Unless there is a way to program discrete power functions via the learning method.

The motorola boxes are toggle power. There is a workaround, though. I've personally never used it, but people say it doesn't work if the unit is a DVR and is currently recording something. If the box is off and you press menu, you get the config menu. From there you can press either menu again, or exit, i forget which. That'll be your power on macro. For power off, just press menu, then power.

Thank you for the info. I had no idea this box was toggle only. Unfortunately the workaround seems to not be working. When the box is off, pressing menu brings up the config screen, pressing menu again just turns the box off again. While in the config screen pressing exit doesn't have any effect. They way I am understanding it is, if this box is a toggle switch only, if i program a macro with a command menu+ power, and the box is off and I want it to stay off, it will not work, and the box will turn back on. Am I missing something?

From [Link: en.wikibooks.org]

  • ON = MENU - POWER - POWER (if OFF: displays setup menu, powers OFF, then powers ON. If ON: displays menu, powers OFF, powers back ON.)
  • OFF = MENU - POWER (if OFF: displays setup menu, then powers OFF. If ON: displays menu, then powers OFF.)
    • NOTE: To get rid of the warning screen that sometimes comes up regarding interruption of an ongoing program recording, append a "LIVE" key to the end of the macro. i.e. ON = MENU - POWER - POWER - LIVE and OFF = MENU - POWER - LIVE.

I knew it was something along those lines.

Hi, I was wondering if you could provide me with a recommended wait time between sending each of these signals. I have had some success with these sequences, but my wait times seem to be off a bit. Trial and error has improved, but still not the best.

The codeset does, in fact, show discrete power on and off, however they may only function as such BEFORE the box is flashed by the cable company. Use the menu/power, menu/power/power as recommended, or just leave the box on full time (as most programmers/installers do).

Quite often URC will populate "Power Off" and "Power On" entries with just the normal Power code.

Hi Everyone,

Just my 2 cents worth. I'm working with a DCX3300, which is what MediaCom uses in our area. I would presume this box is Toggle only as is the 3400.

My problem is the set turns itself off with a "green" feature that doesn't seem to be something that I can get turned off. Then the clients have to turn these back on as the Toggle only commands if left in always mess things up with MX-880's w/o variables to work around. Anyone heard how to "disable" the box shuts itself off feature on these Motorola's?

Thanks

Aster

This one's really easy, but not all that obvious. Shut off the cable box with the Motorola remote. Press [MENU] to enter the box's setup menu. Scroll down (or scroll up, you'll get there with fewer clicks) to the "Auto Power Down" line and press [ENTER]. The feature will toggle between "4 hours" and "Disabled"... you want the "Disabled" setting. Then press [MENU] to turn off the service menu and viola! No more annoying turning itself off and messing up your macros!

You'll also want to remember post 4 in this thread that shows you discrete power-on and power-off workarounds for this blasted box. That one is a lifesaver for our older clients who just can't seem to get on board with the installer telling them, "if this macro occasionally doesn't work, then you can fix it by just pressing..."!!!   Happy customers equal paid invoices!

If you (or your client) (or your community) are particularly "green" and you want to leave the power saving feature active , when the cable box turns itself off after four hours, that's your signal to turn off the whole system (which, of course, now has the discrete power-off workaround) and get off your butt to do something constructive!  After all, should any of us really be watching more than four hours of TV in one sitting? :)

hitting menu then anything no longer works. I HATE CABLE MORE THAN HDMI! Well, maybe the same. This does not work. i assume the fugged up cable companies change software AGAIN.
