I have seen this issue brought up elsewhere, but never a solution. I have two Direct TV HR20 receivers, both set to IR. I am trying to use 2 MX-700s and an MX-850 to control them from throughout my home via IR.

I can easily set one HR20 to its secondary IR code of 00003. However, the HR20 (ID2) code (code 193) in the MX Editor software doesn't work at all. Has anyone had success getting the 193 code to work with the Direct TV HR20-700 HD DVR?

Never tried it without doing IR routing (i.e. same codeset on all remotes with specific IR routes to the appropriate box).

You could always learn the commands from the DTV remotes that are setup with their appropriate codesets. That's what I would do, it would take about 15 minutes.

Maybe Edmund will stop by here with some other solution, he seems to know all of the ins and outs of the DTV remotes.

I have tried "learning" the codes to the MX-700/850 from the Direct TV remote. That did seem to work in that the Universal remotes did copy the codes. But here's the problem: for technical reasons I do not understand, the Direct TV remote itself, while it can control the HR20 within the same room, the signal it sends does not have the power/frequency to carry the signal from the IR receivers I have in each room to the emitters on the HR20s that are housed in my basement. When I have the MX-700/850s learn the codes from the Direct TV remote, they copy not only the code, but the Direct TV remote's weaker signal as well. The 700/850 is then incapable of sending a signal that traverses my IR system. They only work when they are in the same room as the HR20 being controlled.

Codes downloaded directly from the MX-Editor software to the remote itself have never had this problem in over 3.5 years of constant use. What I need is for the HR20 ID2 code to be able to control the receiver when it is set to AV1/AV2 so that I can download it directly from my PC to the 700/850. Only then will it have the signal strength/frequency to work in my home.

I have two HR21-700s installed in a wiring closet in the basement and controlled with Radio Shack IR repeaters. Both HR21-700s and a TiVo HR10-250 are all connected to 3 different HDTVs in my house, so I can view shows from any of them from any TV.

I also have had problems controlling the HR21s with the DirecTV remote. Recently I tried the new URC-WR7 universal remote which I think can only be purchased at Walmart. It has a 3 digit code for the first HR21-700 and I had to learn all the keys for the second one, but the two HR21s and the HR10 all work great with that remote.

Don't get the URC-R7, because its signal is not strong enough to contol the HR21s. The new URC-WR7 has the red green yellow blue buttons across the botom of the remote.

I have the same problem. I can't get the second code set (193) to work with the HR20.

It makes me wonder if 193 is actually 00002 which can be used as the second code set for other DirecTV receivers (R15 for one).
