I noticed a couple of threads talking about authorized & unauthorized dealers. Why is it wrong to buy an mx-810 from an unauthorized dealer?

Is that the only reason, just the warranty? Can I still down load the software and firmware updates from them?

You will only get the non-updatable software if you buy unauthorized. Meaning Live Update is not enabled. They periodically update the non-updatable software, but it's always a few updates behind.

If you buy from an authorized dealer you can get the updatable software and full warranty. I'd reccomend emailing some authorized dealers (www.proremotes.com and www.surfremote.com) and asking for any unadvertised specials they may have.
