i tried to clone an older consumer non-rf automator to an older mx-350 and now the mx-350 is locked-up.

it goes through its startup then jsut stops at the very end with jibberish displayed at the top of the lcd.

im thinking that there are shorting pins for the cmos ?

how do i get the mx-350 back to factory default ?

thanks.

If I recall correctly, there is no way to do a COMPLETE reset. And if you could wipe the memory out (there is no mechanism for this) it would wipe out *everything* and it would still be useless, needing a reload of the program.

Chances are if that's what you need, you'll have to send it in to URC for them to reflash it.

Otherwise, there is a way to merely reset the configuration, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

this is what i did after talking with universal tech support.

to reset the mx-350 to factory default :

hold main and stop.

--warning-- will start flashing at bottom of screen.

continue holding main and stop until --warning-- stops flashing and then you get :

--reset-- at top of screen and options are --sure?-- and --exit--.

press --sure?-- and remote starts initializing and then returns to factory default.

dont know how many other remotes this works for.

That will set it back to factory default. It works for all the MX-series remotes that I've used. But it won't reset the memory, and therefore doesn't resolve many issues. It does come in handy if your computer locks up when uploading a program though.

Everyone 9 years after this was posted, I accessed the info and saved my client a bundle with buying and setting up a new system. Thank you for your time in posting the solution.
