I'm an MX-800 user for my main system and am very comfortable with programming it via MX-editor and learned codes.

I need some help for two other TV+Cable+DVD systems behind closed doors, and I've narrowed down my options to:

1) 2x MX-850 (pros: PC programmable, gets me the new software; cons: cost)
2) 2x MX-350/250 (pros: RF, cost; cons: manual programming sounds like a PITA and seems less flexible)
3) Use dumb cable universal remotes and 2x Remote Extenders: [Link: amazon.com]

Any thoughts?

Also, I need a source for more flashers for my MX-800's IR blaster unit -- lost my original box & have more components to control!

Thanks!

MX-850 is much quicker to program, overall I like it better. The MX-350 is also very reliable though if you want to use it.

What RF base station are you using? If it has a 3.5 mm plug, you can use any IR flasher, if it's one of them with the 2.5 mm plug, you can still use any flasher but just stick a 3.5 mm female to 2.5 mm male mono or stereo adapter on the end.

The MX-850 has a lot more to offer than the MX-350. Programming or updating your programming is very quick and easy on the MX-850.

If you're happy with the MX-800, you'll be equally happy with the MX-850. Anyone using the MX-800 would also not need to learn to use a slightly different remote (MX-350).

Thank you,

Exactly...the editors for the MX-800 and MX-850 are identical.

Another advantage of the MX-850 over the MX-350 is that the MX-850 has a larger (and update-able) installed IR code base. There are some devices which the MX-850 can control which the MX-350 is unable to control and not even capable of learning.

If you now use the MX-800 you should like the MX-850 much better than the MX-350, the MX-850 improves upon the MX-800 while the MX-350 is a noticeably lesser remote. I own both the MX-800 and MX-850, I owned an MX-350 in the past.

Thanks so much for your help! I'll snag an 850 for the bedroom and see how it goes.
