I think my old MX-500 just died when I put fresh batteries in it and it does its self test it fails the memory test and says empty next to memory then it just gets hung and keeps looping the self test .

Has this happened to anyone else anything i can do like a reset or is it time to look for new remote ?

Yes, it happens sometimes to URC remotes, only remedy is to send it in to have the memory flashed. I had to send in a mx-600.

You call the phone # in the manual, you get REF # and the address to ship to, usually don't charge a thing. You pay shipping there only. Its upto if you want to bother or get a new remote.
